The Military Standard Test

It starts with a baseline Military Standard (MIL-STD)* test, a series of tests designed by the US Department of Defense to determine the overall durability of a product.

It requires a case and device to be dropped 26 times from 4 feet. This proves the edges, corners, front and back of a case prevail through multiple impacts and that we’ve made the most protective phone case possible.

MIL-STD Meets the OtterBox Standard

At OtterBox, we up the ante by running the MIL-STD test over and over and over.

When you see 1X, 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X DROP+ next to one of our cases, this means that we fatigue tested our cases again and again to ensure they survive drop after drop, not just the first few.

- 1X = 26 individual drops from 4 feet

- 2X = 52 individual drops from 4 feet

- 3X = 78 individual drops from 4 feet

- 4X = 104 individual drops from 4 feet

- 5X = 130 individual drops from 4 feet

The + in DROP+

The + in DROP+ represents the extra tests our engineers perform to deliver the device defence you need - we drop, scuff, scorch, tumble and more until an OtterBox product can be certified DROP+.

These top-secret tests are performed in the OtterBox Prototype Innovate Test (P.I.T.) Lab to make sure your device is protected from the unexpected.

Screen Saver

Before they ever get the chance to touch your phone’s display, our screen protector designs pass punishing tests in our lab. We go to new heights to keep your screen safe, conducting controlled, flat face drops to simulate the rough-and-tumble world outside. Only the screen protectors that survive scratches and triumph over tumbles get the DROP+ designation — all so you can be sure your screen is in safe hands.
